Five A Day (Oil on canvas 2011 800x360mm)

'Five A Day' reflects years of endless medication as a diabetic with ongoing complications due to poor care and management of diabetes over many years of depression and mental health problems. The tablets reflect the daily dose to deal with depression, cholesterol, neuropathy and blood pressure associated with over 30 years of being diabetic. Ironically these tablets are wedged into a sugar bowl. On the table are the two insulin pens from which five injections of insulin each day are given. I use art to explore the complexity of living with diabetes and it's consequences.
